Strange TCP/IP or Winsock Problem...Help Please!!

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Going crazy here trying to figure this one out....

Running Win2k w/SP4... Have been running fine for a long time with
Zonealarm 2.6, decided to upgrade to 6.0???. After seemingly
successful upgrade, Zonealarm reported a system error and would not
start. It recommended to reboot. At reboot I noticed a slow startup,
Zonealarm still did not start with same error. I also noticed in the
event log that truevector service would not start either. Then tried
to search for answers on the web but network was down. Uninstalled
Zonealarm, but network still down. Could ping myself but nothing
outside, not even my local network.

Figured TCP/IP corruption, so I uninstalled tcp/ip then re-installed.
That fixed it, was able to reach out to the network and internet. But
still no firewall. Tried to re-install the older version of
Zonealarm...halfway through installation, the system just black
screened and rebooted. Then tcp/ip was broken
again...uninstall/reinstall to repair worked again.

I then tried to install McAfee firewall. After a seemingly successful
install it refused to start as well and TCP/IP was broken again...could
ping myself but nothing outside. Uninstalled
McAfee...uninstall/reinstall TCP/IP...it worked again.

Tried to repair possible file corruption by reinstalling SP4. After a
successful installation of SP4, TCP/IP was broken again...
uninstall/reinstall worked again.

Thats where I am now. Network functional, but cannot install a firewall
without corruption. Sorry for the long explaination, but wanted to be
clear.

Any ideas??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
