Surely you didn't really name your DOMAIN
"www.somename.co.uk"?
Didn't you name the DOMAIN: somename.co.uk

All the DCs register the name of the domain so
there would be a conflict if you named it as you
reported.
Assuming you named the domain without the WWW,
your users can resolve the web server by typing that
www, but no by typing the "bare domain name."
You must add the WWW server A record to the internal
DNS server -- you should also add any/all other external
resources for your domain that you wish to resolve by
internal clients, e.g., FTP.somename.co.uk, smtp.somename.co.uk
or whatever else you have "out there."

You have a DC right?
