You can run an *.exe from a UNC path just fine. Although I do realize that
some apps don't execute or run properly that way,...we used to have one
here. It finally went away and so did the mapped drive with it.

They shouldn't have to reboot. All they should have to do is click
(double-click?) on the Drive icon in Windows Explorer to "wake up" the
conncetion.

I have no other ideas. I don't run mapped drive except for a couple
situations on a couple machines. In those cases they work just fine and I
don't experience the same problem you have. so I'm not sure what else to
suggest since you already disabled the autodisconnect.

Double check your method of disabling autodisconnect. I don't recall it
being done the way you did it. I thought it was a regular registry entry
done via Regedit,...so maybe yours really is not disabled yet.
