You don't mention anything about your network infrastructure. I know from
experience that random connection problems can be caused by setting the link
speed and duplex settings on NICs and switch ports to Auto. It's best to set
them to a fixed value, preferably the highest value your network hardware can
handle.
For example, if you have 100Mb NICs and your switch has 100Mb capable ports,
then set these ports and NICs to 100Mb/Full duplex.
If you're not using a switch and are running of of a straight concentrator
or hub, then you can still set the NICs to the same settings.
