What do you mean "flashes on then closes"? This is not a normal action for
the Command Prompt screen. The only way to close the command prompt screen
is with the exit command.
You should be using the command prompt screen not the start/ run screen.
To get the the Command Prompt screen hit the start button and select
"Programs/ Accessories / Command Prompt"
