That's exactly what I did.
No, remote access auto connection manager wasn't running
because remote access connection manager wasn't running
either. They were set to manual as well. When I attempted
to start the service, I received the message "Could not
start the Remote Access Connection Manager service on
Local Computer. Error 5: Access is denied." It had
nothing to do with log-on priviledge however.
So I found Microsoft Knowledge base article #829779
explaining a problem with SP1 for Windows XP installed
and then placed out of sync. There was a registry fix
method suggested. Problem...I have Windows 2000 Pro and
found no similar reference for that version. But the
article was specific to my problem, so I backed up the
registry and exported a copy of the rasman key for safety
and implemented the registry fix as detailed. PRESTO.
Everything came back, including the original connections
listing. Whew! It must have happened as a result of my
install of SP4 on my Windows 2000 Pro.
