Challenge: Save local "default" printer when roaming profiles are used

I have several "floaters" in one of our LAN groups that move between
departments to help out. We use Windows 2000 with AD and roaming
profiles.

Problem is when a user roams to another PC and logs in, the default
printer on their NORMAL workstation follows them to the new
department. They have to get up and walk (sometimes across buildings)
to get their print jobs. This is NOT what we want. We want the
department printer to be the default for these temp workstation
locations. God bless these workers, they're great but computer savvy
they're not and trying to get them to reset the default printer on a
workstation is like trying to lengthen the Golden Gate bridge.

Is there a utility or setting somewhere I can use/set to get a
department printer (or even a locally attached LPT1: printer) to be
the defacto default printer REGARDLESS of the roaming profile? Or even
turn OFF that setting in the roaming profile settings?

Any help is greatly appreciated (they're giving me gray hairs but some
really impressive legs!)

Fran
