User account invalid password

I am attempting to network a Win2000 machine with another
Win98SE machine. I have established a New User on the
Win2000 machine and given it a password. The new user
account appears to establish correctly, but when I attempt
to access the shared folders on the 2000 machine from the
98 machine and am asked for a password, when I enter the
password previously established I am told that it is
incorrect. Also the path shown to the 2000 machine is in
the following context: \\(computer name)\IPC$. I have
deleted and reentered/changed the user name and password
several times and still receive the same incorrect
password and error message. There is another 98 machine on
the network that I set up some time ago and it is not
having any difficulty. It is set up the same way. I tried
adding a third 98 machine with a new IP address as a test
and have the same password problem. All machines see
eachother on the network. The 2000 machine can access
everyone elses drives and the 98 machines can all access
other 98 machine drives. The 98 machine the can access the
shared folder displays a normal path format (i.e.
\\(computer name)\(folder name)
