When MSN Messenger connects to make a file transfer in does not go through
MSN servers it connects directly to the person you are sending to. So when
I do a netstat when transfering a file with most people I resolve their IP
address. I was trying to resolve my friend's IP address to help with their
firewall configuration, when I did a Netstat I saw I was connecting to
192.168.1.101. I am behind my own router/firewall with my own Ip address
192.168.2.xxx and even when I packet sniffed the traffic the headers said
the mac address destination was my router and the src was my computers mac
address.. Why does my friends IP not show up properly (their external IP) I
think they have a linksys router or Dlink (not sure some name brand) I
thought private IP subnets wernt routable so how am I seeing this IP and how
is this file actually sending!? I cannot ping the private IP address so how
am I making this connection.. how does it know where to send the file. I
do not want a work around like.. get my firend to ping me and read traffic
this way.. Is it becase of some NAT thing.. is the real MAC or IP hidden in
the headers somewhere I missed?? Any HElp PLEASE
