That's odd -- generally you have to turn it off if you don't want
it.

First, check to see if your NIC\IP Advanced properties have
disabled NetBIOS resolution -- considering turning it back on
(for all the machines) since "Browsing" is a NetBIOS application.

NetBIOS, and thus browsing, does NOT work across routers
by default -- the standard solution is to install WINS server(s)
and register ALL of the machines with WINS.

Can you ping by name or just by IP? You may also have a
general name resolution problem if only IP works.
