FTP uses TCP/IP so I think the real question may be whether it is faster to
transfer data using FTP or SMB. I may be off base but that's how I
interpreted it. If that's the case then I don't have a definitive answer
although if I had to make a guess I'd pick SMB based on personal experience.
When it comes to FTP a lot depends on the client being used as some are
faster than others.
