I have a small network of two W98 machines and two W2K machines using NetBUI
and client for MS networks. One W98 machine is set up as a print server for
a HP Winprinter and that works just fine. One W2K machine has a Canon laser.
This is shared and runs well from either W2k machine, but I cannot access it
from either W98 machine. It works fine when connected directly to either W98
machine. It is detected and installs OK across the network from the W98
machines. I can browse to it through Network Neighbourhood and look at
properties or status. But any attempt to print to it from either W98 machine
when it is connected to the W2K machine fails with "Network Error: Unable to
access print server for network printer \\<machine name>\<printer name>".
Network access for file sharing etc works fine with drives or folders shared
on any machine accessible from any other - it's only the printer on the W2K
machine accessed from a W98 machine that has a problem. There is no ICS. Any
advice much appreciated.
