Hello William,
Here's what I got on the G4. I don't see anything about the vpn dns. The windows info is after the Mac's:

Let's check that...
On a Windows machine, open a command prompt by going to Start --> Run and entering "cmd" without quotes. Click OK.
At the command prompt type "ipconfig /all" without quotes. Note any DNS server IP addresses that you see. Also, note if you're getting any entries for WINS servers.
On the Mac, open the Terminal from /Applications/Utilities. Type "dig" without quotes and hit press Return. You should see IP addresses for your DNS servers under the Additional Section.
If on the Windows machine you see WINS entries but no DNS then this is what's doing name resolution and not DNS. You can manually enter a WINS server entry on the Mac using /Applications/Utilities/Directory Access/SMB.
