USB drive will not mount

I have 5 8GB USB flash drives that say they are compatible with Windows 2000.
When they are installed, Disk Manager assigns a drive letter F:, However they
do not show in Explorer, nor can you access them via the F: drive letter.

The old tape backup died, and this is a good temporary backup method until a
new drive can be acquired.

Disk Manager Has the drive listed as a removable, 7.57GB, and Healthy. I can
format the drive (and after it does works on an XP machine),

I found the following in the event log:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Removable Storage Service
Event Category: None
Event ID: 106
Date: 1/22/2009
Time: 1:04:54 PM
User: N/A
Computer: WHITLEY
Description:
Multisided media 3 could not be identified in library HP v100w USB Device.
RSM attempted to flip the media to identify the second side but could not
because the media was in use by another process. This media has been forced
into the Unrecognized pool and left in the disabled state. Perform a full
inventory or eject the media and re-insert it into the library to fix this
situation.

I did some googling and it looked like cleaning out the USBSTOR and USB keys
of removable devices would resolve this problem, but it did not.

The system for some reason believes it's a 5.25 rewritable disk of some type.

Here is what eventvwr is logging when the device is plugged in "AFTER"
removing the above keys.

I'm also going to send this information to the support at HP/PNY for this.
Any help is appreciated.
