Or maybe the Maxtor was origonally partitioned with a third party utility or
drive overlay software?

D:/ is a partition of about 8GB, WITH 7.87 GB free. There is no
unallocated
space, unless you equate unallocated space to free space which is
formatted
to hold data.
Anyway, after I deleted the partition using Disk Management:
* DM> right-click on Disk 1 > Properties > still shows D: as Capacity 8056
MB, Unallocated space 0 MB.
* DM> right-click on Volume bar> Properties > 7.85 GB free space
* My Computer shows D: with 7.85 GB both Total and Free
Right-clicking on DM> Volume bar > offers a Delete Volume choice. Doing so
DM > 7.87 GB Unallocated. Properties > 8056 MB Capacity & UnallocatedSpace. D: no longer shows in My Computer.
Your help is appreciated. I've done these procedures several time without
getting the entire available space of 20+GB which I had before. It's
frustrating. I don't understand.
I have the drive specs for the D: Maxtor Mod 32049H2, but the CMOS seems
to have no place to enter them manually
Thanks, Dugie

A Partition of 8.1gb + Free (Unallocated) 7.87gb ?
If the above is correct and this hd contains no data (or data you can
delete the partition & create a partition to use the whole availablespace
(Should give about 17gb)I

After installing the new mainboard, I ran the W2K install CD repair,
cdmakethe
tech who installed the mobo suggested.
(the tech's installation of the board wasn't planned; it was done to
up for a previous sale to me an unsupported mobo)
Thanks!

Hi,
I'm running updated W2K Pro, and have 3 hard drives. I've used
(thefor
about 3 years, no problems.
Installed a new mainboard, MSI V Class K9VGM-V, with 1GB RAM.
Current problem is the Maxtor 20GB, a slave to the 30GB Maxtor
Management30GB
works fine).
BIOS sees the 20GB properly, but the system doesn't. Disk
one.is
no
regainhelp. At best it only sees a partition of about 8.1 GB.
I want to reformat/partition the 20GB, or whatever is needed, and
all its space. How to do so would be appreciated.
If this isn't the proper newsgroup, please suggest the proper
Thanks.
