My special mystery

I have a P4 laptop that has a very loud fan noise that is annoying.

I find that running W2K it draws 70 watts and the fan runs a lot.

With the same HDD running XP (I replaced 2K by Ghost XP to the HDD), the
watts drop to 40 and the fan runs a lot less.

Any ideas what is going on?

I use mine at less than the maximum power anyway so I don't have heat problems in the house, but during the summer in the truck the temp can get up there in a hurry. ...
