cd rom drive disappeared unable to load drivers

Hi! I've got an issue on my laptop. The CD ROM drive has disappeared under
"my computer", and when I use device manager to troubleshoot why, it shows
the cd rom drive with a yellow colour and an exclamation point. The
explanation give is that "windows is unable to load the driver". I recently
installed an IPOD shuffle/Itunes/quicktime on the pc and wonder if this
caused it. I did do a backup of everything before installing. I'm familiar
with restore of Windows ME where it just restores the registry. Does Windows
2000 have a function like this? Is that what the "state" restore is? This
is my work laptop that I use every day, so I've got to be very careful here!
