Having used card readers since before the USB versions were available I cannot speak more favorably for them. The media simply becomes a removable media drive and from there you can do whatever you want. The media can also be used as a "zip drive" equivalent to carry software from place to place. Here is SoCal Fry's and others often have 10 & 12 different media type readers available for $6 to $12 in USB 1 & 2 packages. If you want to get it working as a challenge then that is a viable reason but you should look into a card reader for regular use. Fast, versatile & reliable. I have been using an old parallel port version, before USB, for my Olympus camera from the days when 2mpix first arrived. Still working great with no problems except they now do not have drivers for Win2K so those machines have to use the USB versions. Good luck and enjoy.

Is there any reason to think that it's not just a buggy driver? That's what it sounds like from your description (and knowing Canon drivers and Canon support). I never even bothered to try to install the drivers for my Canon Rebel.

Gary,
OK... Thx for the tip. I was considering that as well for this specific problem because I know picture download on Canon cameras is pretty slow using their software and drivers. Only problem is that it does not really address the issue. What happens next time I try to install something?
I'd
like to be able to get this problem fixed for next time.

To any guru out ther who would know. Help!!!
Been trying to install my Canon (A520) camera TWAIN driver for the
past
few
days.... It simply does not work. At the end of the process I always
get
an
"Access Denied" errors.
Tried everything I know of plus other that I learned through trying to
find
a solution nothing works.
- Ensured I was logged in as "administrator" - called Canon support. With them removed my printer/scanner drivers
then
deleted the camera and reinstalled everything. - Deleted driver, device, uninstalled all related programs, went to winnt/inf folder to delete all related inf and pnf files (cap*.inf /
pnf)
and reinstalled everything - create new user with admin right and re-installed - disabled virus protection and reinstaled. - downloaded latest driver install file from web, copied driver file
to
HD
and installed from there.
Only thing I could think of was that recently installed a whole bunch
of
windows2000 patches and fixes. One of which was SP4. Tried to
uninstall
that... Basically I lost windows. Could not boot my PC anymore. I
had
to
repair windows using the install CD...
Any ideas... Funny thing is that I reinstalled my printer drivers
with
no
problem...
Forget the TWAIN driver and get a USB card reader for the memory
card
and simply copy the files. TWAIN drivers are a pain in the a**!
