| Alas, no. The video config hasn't changed a whit in this regard - still
an
| ATI All-in-Wonder Pro 128 attached to the same Viewsonic GS771 monitor -

Weirdness prevails.
A hunch led me to this: I rebooted to BIOS setup, set the "PnP OS" option
on, and set to reset the ECSD (sp?) configuration. Upon reaching desktop
(and Device Mgr afterwards) "Default Monitor" was gone, leaving my ViewSonic
GS771 alone.
