Well, that's mighty encouraging <sigh>. I would think by
now that there would be a PCMCIA or other solution of
sorts to this problem, even a lousy one. Sad to hear that
I am stuck here. Well, at least this was a gift. I will
prolly torment it with various OS' like Linux or Solaris.
At least I will have something to take with me on call
when I become a real tech.
Also on the table for the future will be a possible CPU
upgrade. I contacted a company earlier today and learned
that my computer may actually have a slot/socket and that
the CPU may replaced. Unfortunately, his colleague that he
claimed knew a lot more about these systems was
unavailable.
In the past, Toshiba denied that this was possible. I
believe that they told me this to keep me from voiding the
warranty. At this stage, I wonder who is right and whether
or not I'd be better off taking this PC to a computer tech
shop and getting a third opinion. Obviously, they'd have
everything to gain and a big sale to lose all at the same
time.
I guess that this venture in laptop land may as well be
over. I did actually manage to increase the size of the
swap file to four times the amount of RAM on my system. I
set the minimum and maximum swap file size to 512MB. I am
reasoning that this terminal will do for basic use and
little more. Hopefully the vendor is telling the truth
about the CPU upgrade and not trying to line their own
pockets with ill-earned cash. I'd hate to have take them
to court to make them be honest, but I certainly will if
the need presents itself.
