I'm running an AMD 1800+, 256Mb RAM, 40Gb HDD, on a K7S5A
mobo with DVD ROM and DVD+/-RW. I'm having booting
problems which I'm having trouble resolving. There are 3
different scenarios
1. On start up, power light is on, HDD light is off and
their is no system activity
2. On start up power light is on, HDD light is on
permanantly and DVD-ROM and DVD-RW lights flash
alternately, perhaps in ratio of 10:1 (if bootable CD is
in either, it remains unrecognised)
3. On start up, initial post screen appears indicating
that a) CMOS setting is wrong b) CMOS memory size is
wrong with choice of F1 to enter set up or F2 to load
defualt settings.
Option 3 has occured only three times (third time instead
of CMOS settings wrong error was low battery. I've tried
F1 and checked/set settings and F2 to set default.
Video card tested OK as has RAM. All cards except Video
removed and DVD-Rom/RW disconnected. Still same. In all
cases there is no FDD recognition/activity (('ve reversed
cable to check FDD light stays on perm which it does).
Changed cable just to be sure, Changed IDE cables. Still
same. Checked power OK, mobo using insulated fixings etc
etc
Suspect BIOS corrupted and/or mobo problem ??. Checked
CMOS battery (3.25v), Cleared settings with jumper (reset
settins on one of the option 3 start-ups)
Any further ideas or suggestions would be gratefully
appreciated
Tks in anticipation
Tom
