To be clear. There is a published API for setting policy values in GPOs..
This uses the IGroupPolicy interface
(http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa374235.aspx). The software
installation extension of Group Policy does not have a published API.

I have a question on whether or not you can automate the creation of a
GPO.
I am new to an enterprise environment and am working in a test lab. One
of
the tasks that I do repeatedly is to create and test the distribution of
.MSI
files via group policy. It is an easy task to accomplish manually but
when
you have a number of them to test it would be nice to just enter a couple
of
parameters and have the GPO created by itself.
I looked at the GPMC and there is a creategpo script but this creates an
empty GPO and I want to be able to pass through the parameters for
distibuting the .MSI file.
Please let me know if this is even scriptable in the first place. I am
assuming that it would be a matter of getting a script to make changes
inside
an .ADM file. Also, if it is possible, can I then use a script to set
the
security permissions on the newly created GPO?
What ever information someone can provide would be appreciated.
