system.adm replication

does anybody know the exact working with the standard system.adm files?
what is the diff between a server system.adm and a workstation's?
the diff in size is remarkable although the settings aren't that different

when a system.adm or any other default adm file gets an updated timestamp it is immediately replicated to all the DC's in the domain
and as well to all the policies that get edited or created from then on
can this behavior be changed somehow?

now that I know this it is no longer an issue
but it did startle the administrator colleagues on the other side of the world ;-(
this because of disappearing settings in their customized system.adm
(I always warned them not to do that but who am I ;-))

thnx
