Office 2003 "fake" install

I've successfully created a GPO Office 2003 package that installs
itself upon reboot of assigned desktops. However when it hits PCs with
Office 2003 already installed, it uninstalls itself but leaves a
listing under Add/Remove Programs. Rebooting does not help. Carrying
out the instructions in this document does not help:

I'm not sure what's missing here. I have way too many machines to
"weed" my existing installs out (that plus I WANT all Office 2003
installations to be associated with the GPOs Unique ID). It's like a
"phantom" install that will not die. Please help!
