I have a windows 2000 advanced server and a windows 2000 pro machine in a
test environment. On the server, I added a user called gptest1. I created
an OU called gp, and I moved the user into that OU. I right clicked on the
OU and went to the group policy tab. For a test, I was just trying to do a
login script for the user. I added a batch file that uses the net use
command to map a drive. I joined the workstation to the domain as
administrator, logged off, and logged in as gptest1. Nothing happens. I
checked the security permissions on the GP, and that user has read and apply
group policy permissions.

If I run gpotool, I get the following:

C:\Program Files\Resource Kit>gpotool /domain:tst2000

gpotool: e ERROR: GetDCList; DsBindW; hr=800706ba; The RPC server is
unavaila

ble.

gpotool: + File:d:\nt\private\ctpolprf\common\polutil\polutil.cxx;
Line:72

gpotool: e ERROR: GetDCList; GetDCList failed; hr=800706ba; The RPC server
is

unavailable.

gpotool: + File:d:\nt\private\ctpolprf\common\polutil\polutil.cxx;
Line:644

Error: get DC list

If I run gpresult, I get the following:

C:\Program Files\Resource Kit>gpresult /u

What am I missing? Is there a good step-by-step guide for beginners on
this?

Thanks,

Brian
