Group Policy and DNS

I have recently tried to apply group policies to our network, and been
unable to use them. From reading Buz's excellent posts on here, I have
established that the problem lies in the configuration if the DNS
Server on the DC.

The set up here is a follows:

1 Win2k Server with Active Directory running.
1 ISP supplied pre-configured router which is responsible for DHCP and
DNS.
15 xp pro w/s .

We had all sorts of problems configuring the network to give people
access to botht he internet and the network. It was eventually
resolved by letting the router handle DHCP.

The workstations all have DNS and DHCP set automatically.

I have found that if I want to add a new PC to the network, then I
have to enable DHCP Server on the server. Then once i have
established a connection to the server, i disable DHCP server again on
the server, reboot the ISP provided router, and release/rnew the IP
address on the PC. this lets the user have internet access and access
to the LAN. All very mixed up, but as it was working I never had the
time to do anything about it until now.

I have attached a IPCONFIG /ALL report from my PC below if that is any
help.

Windows IP Configuration

        Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 24 March 2004 12:20:19

On our server the results are slightly different, insomuch that the
DNS server points to the IP addresses provided by the ISP. I realise
that the clients should point to the DC for DNS but if the DC is
taking a DHCP assigned IP address, does this still apply?

Sorry for rambling, but I'm not too hot on any of this, so it's very
much a learn as you go along at the moment for us.
