So, you say. How is it spam to ask if people have had good
experiences with other linux distros?

It wouldn't be spam if you posted the question in a relevant
newsgroup, i.e. in a linux-focused newsgroup. When you post it in a
Windows newsgroup then one is drawn to the conclusion that you're
trying to sell something - a product, a program, your ideas, your
convictions.

since this involves users of old windows and presumably old computers,
in the win.general categories, how is it not relevant?

Same reason it isn't relevant in a ford newsgroup, despite the fact the
ford owner has a computer.

so the real reason is brand zealotry. Like Coke vs Pepsi. I am not
into it. I buy what's on sale.

No the real reason is that your post has zip, nada, zilch to do with
Windows 2000 therefor OFF TOPIC and Commercial in nature. It is called
SPAM.

It can be a replacement for windows 2000 on older computer so it is
general reference to it. This is a general discussion group. It is not
commercial as I a not offering anything that is for sale. I just wanted
to know if anyone else had found a good flavor of linux for that era of
computer. Linux is a free program, so it isn't commercial. You are just
engaging in silly strawman stuff, probably out of brand zealotry.
