google is your friend. try searching for partition manager, editor,
recovery tools, etc.... You really want a program that can take
all of C: drive and put it into one file that can be copied to a second
drive or a network drive. Older ones can only work with ide and
not sata. If you find something and it is only a partition editor that
is not what you seek. A program that backs up the whole partition
to one file is what you want. I used to use Norton System Works
Ghost 2003 until I moved to sata drives. It worked well and I
never lost anything with it. You can create a bootable cd with the
software also which in my opinion is the only way to go. Great for
older machines.

look for gparted it is a free partition manager but I have never used
it for backing up a partition to a file, it is based on Linux. as far as I
know it does not support sata yet (its' only major drawback)
development is ongoing and the price is right (free) hopefully they
will add the features we really need in the near future. SATA support.

1. make 20G master
2. make 40G slave
3. create 2 partitions on 40Ger, the first one at least 20G, format both.
4. insert "ghost" cd in drive and boot to it.
5. create the image file and save it to the second partition of the 40Ger.
6. shut down machine.
7. take out 20Ger
8. make 40Ger the master
9. boot to "ghost" cd in drive.
10. copy partition image file from the second partition to the first.
11. shut down
12. restart with "new" C: drive partition from 40Ger.
done.

An image is a snapshot from the complete harddisk as a file which you can
restore to another harddisk. You can use Acronis for example, 15 day free

A slave drive? It's already a slave drive on the machine.

Create an image? What's an image? How do I create one?
