If you never had read/write permissions then how were your messages being saved
to the store?

Pegasus, you hit the nail on the head. I followed your advice and was able
to give Power Users full permission to make required changes. I have been
working on this for a long time and was at the end of my rope. My problem

I posted this on the OE6 newsgroup--feedback suggested that Power Users

I am unable to change the location of the Outlook Express 6 (OE6)
message
store folder when logged on as a power user; however, I have no problem
changing its location when I change my group membership to the
Administrators Gp. My OS is Windows 2000 Professional w/SP4, browser is
IE6
and I am using Outlook Express 6. All available updates are installed.

As a Power User, when I try to change the message store to an empty
folder
or an existing folder and then re-start OE I get the following error
messages:
Outlook Express could not be started. The application was unable to
open
the OE message store. Your computer may be out of memory or your disk
is
full. Contact Microsoft support for further assistance.
(0x80070001E,5)----then after pressing OK----Outlook express could not
be
started because MSOE.DLL could not be initialized. OE may be installed
incorrectly

Once I log off and change my group membership to the Administrators Gp
and
then log back on, OE6 opens with the message store location changed;
however,
when I log off, change my group membership back to the power Users Gp.,
and
log back on, OE6 fails to open and the above error messages are again
displayed.

My new custom computer - DG965RY Mother Board, E6400 CPU, 320 GB HD, 2GB
RAM, and my OS is installed on an NTFS partition.

FYI, as a Power User, I had no problem changing the message store
location
when my OS was installed on an older Fat-32 computer system. Also, I
have
manually removed and reinstalled Outlook Express IAW Microsoft Support
Article No: 263837.

I have been working on this for some time now and I am about ready to
give
up and use the default message store location.

I will sincerely appreciate help in resolving this issue!

Check the NTFS permissions of the chosen folder so that the
chosen user has full read/write access. If unsure how to do this,
click Start / Help / Search tab, then look for help on Permissions.
