My guess would be that your problem was probably caused by the program that you
installed.

An excerpt from the Doug Knox web page states, "Third party image programs often
change these values, and break the "Image Preview" in Windows Explorer. This
script will also repair the Registry associations for Thumbnail View mode, since
they often get damaged at the same time. "

That sounds exactly like your problem.
