Win2k Fax Service

I've never been able to use this service as it always hangs once I've dialed up a fax number through Word. All the stages of the wizard come up ok, but once I click on 'Finish' the printer icon shows up immediately in the taskbar, but when I right click it nothing is shown in the 'jobs pending' column, and my modem fails to click into action.

I have a data, fax modem, which works fine in every other respect (connecting to the internet). If I use Supervoice software instead to deliver a fax, that is sent without a hitch using Word. So what is the problem with MS fax service?
