i recently tried to set up a direct connection with a cat5 cable between
my
home computer with windows 2000 and my laptop with XP. When 2000 rebooted
it
set a password. I never had a password before and now i need my files and
ca't get in. I need help quick please. I can't log on as anyone now.
Any
help out there.

No version of Windows ever set a password by itself.
It was there all along. However, if you previously validated
yourself against a domain logon and if you now changed
this to a local logon then the old password would no
longer work.

The usual way to resolve the issue two pronged:
- Reset the administrator's password with a boot disk
from here: http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bootdisk.html
- Plan ahead and create a second admin account ***now***
and lock its password away. It's the same as with your
car: Would you consider it prudent to have just a single
set of keys?
