Re: Fromatting->Installing in a BIG hard disk (120 GB)

Other that the suggestions given you may also want to download a
utility from the people who made the disk or use Partition Magic and
format through the utility (they work in DOS mode, you usually boot
the computer with a floppy) and then install Windows. BIOS limitations
may cause this as well as some features in the Disk that may not work
with Windows 2000.

I am trying to install Windows 2000 Professional in a new hard disk
(120 GB) and having problem as mentioned below.

A: System information:
1) CPU: Pentium II
2) Memory: 512 MB
3) Clock speed: 333 MHz.

B: Installation sequence:
1) Booted from CD (Windows 2000 Professional CD)
2) Windows installation starts
3) I select the option for formatting the disk (because it is a new
disk) before installation
4) Formatting starts and finishes normally

C: What I observe later:
1) After formatting, all WIndows files are copied to the memory
2) System reboots automatically after copying files
3) System rebooted and comes back again to tho prompt asking to select
the option of formatting, and the steps of B repeated again without
installing the OS

Questions:
1) How can I solve this problem and install WIndows on my new hard
drive ?
2) Is the BIG size of the disk a problem ?

There are several possible sources of difficulty.

1) Did you set the jumpers on your new hard disk properly?
2) Your machine's BIOS may not support hard drives this size. (After
all, it's a P2)
3) Is your hard disk included in the Boot order of your machine? (Check
settings in BIOS)

4) Is your macines BIOS set to automaticly detect the size of this
drive? (Check settings in BIOS)
