Windows 2000 mis-identification of DVD drive?
Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry
I recently added a Plextor 760 DVD writer to my system. I still have the
older Plextor 708 DVD writer installed. If you open windows explorer and
look in the left hand tree pane, you see the 708 identified as a Compact
Disk but the 760 is identified as a Removable disk. The 760 is a dual layer
DVD writer but I can't imagine why that would make it identify itself as
Removable media. Does the device actually identify itself to windows or
does windows use an internal table or something to determine how to identify
a given device.
Obviously this isn't causing a problem but since I have never seen this
before I am now curious about the subject.
thanks in advance for any feedback.
