well, to make it more annoying, I setup DNS, have it replicating with the
main DNS server, and I still get teh same error when I try to run dcpromo

Yeah, Windows 2003 Server is really dependent upon having DNS fully
functional before you can install AD.

Ok, I feel like a goober now. I was planning on setting up DNS after
adding it to the domain.
Thanks

This is a wild stab in the dark. But whenever I have this sort of
problem, it is always related to the DNS not being setup correctly.
I'd say check the DNS server and make sure all records are entered and
correct. Then check the DNS settings of your new Server and make sure
it can resolve to the 1st Domain controller.

I have a new server (2003 R2) and I am trying to add it to my exsisting
SBS 2003 domain.
I run dcpromo on it, select join and exsisting domain. After it stops
teh netlogon service, it fails.
I get a message telling me to run ADPREP on the main server.
I do and it instantly tells me that everything is cool.
What am I missing???
