If you're not using the service and it's causing errors then try setting it to manual start (or disabled) in the Services Management Console.
I'm not sure if AverMedia should even be on your computer, maybe or maybe not, read here and see if it sounds like a possible mix up that might also apply to Windows 2000, even though it doesn't say I think it could be the same situation:
