I have few quick questions regarding upgrade from windows 2000 to windows
2003 :
We have windows 2000 native domain with 1 forest and 2 domains and have 4
windows 2000 DC's with SP4 in 2 sites. Our strategy to upgrade to windows
2003 would be first to backup our schema.
Question 1: Would doing a system state backup and all drives on all DC's
cover this.
Next we would you use Adprep/forestprep and Adprep/domainprep commands on
one of our windows 2000 DC which has all the OM roles.
Question2: Does it make difference that if I use a windows 2003 CD or
Windows 2003 SP1 CD for the ADPrep command.
Question3; Are there any issues with the running adrpep, such as it wont
corrupt the schema.
Question: Do we need to run adprep /domainprep /gpprep as well.
Once that is completed, we will install a windows 2003 server and DC promo
it so that it becomes a windows 2003 DC. Then move the FSMO roles to this
server.
Question: Once we setup the windows 2003 DC does the domain level still
stay at windows 2000 native level or does it automatically raise itself to
one of the windows 2003 domain levels.
Question: We currently have exchange 2003 in our domain. Also running
ADPREP, would this cause any issues with exchange 2003. I read some problems
with exchange 2000, such as the link below:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314649
Is this the same issue in exchange 2003 or is it only related to exchange
2000 from your experience
Is the above strategy ok to . I am just worried about if there are any
issues with running ADPREP and if it causes any problems with the schema
because if there are problems its going to be difficuly to roll back. But
has anyone seen any problems from your experince.
