I'm putting two and two together and I come to the conclusion
that your files are migrating to the person who posted the
question just before you ("Deleted files re-appear"). Your
files disappear, his files re-appear! Perhaps you're the
same person: I note that both of you post from Germany.
Kleines Witzchen, was?
Seriously, Windows does not do either of these things. If
your files disappear then it's caused by something like
- Virus action
- Hacking
- Someone playing a practical joke
- Your code not doing what you expect it to do
- You looking in the wrong place
- Your machine running some clean-up program that you're
not aware of.
The numbers speak against you: There are millions of Windows
machines out there. If your problem was due to a flaw in Windows
then it would have become known years ago.

I am working on Win2K Pro. Of late, sometimes I find that files get
deleted from the hard disk on its own & that too permanently. For e.g.
today I was working on a VB project which has around 25 Forms & other
objects. At the same time, the directory in which the entire project is
saved was open.
After doing some coding here & there, when I tried to execute the
project, VB showed a message saying "File not found". When I had a look
at the directory (where the project resided & which was open at that
time), to my horror, I found that all the files have got deleted
permanently on its own! I just didn't do anything. Neither any code in
the VB project deletes any files/folders when the project loads!
I thoroughly checked my hard disks for virus, trojans, worms, spywares
etc.. but my anti-virus (AVG7) said that the hard disks are absolutely
clean!
Someone please tell me what should I do. Fortunately, I had the latest
copy of the VB project in a removeable drive; so as such I didn't lose
anything! I have been using Win2K Pro since it came out in the market
but this is the first time I am encountering this eccentricity!
Thanks,
Arpan
