Can't use my old HD on my new MOBO

I just purchased a new Intel D945PSN mother board and am trying to connect my
old hard drive (ATA-66 IDE) to the IDE port. When I boot up WIN2K starts to
load and when it gets to "Starting Windows" it gives me a Stop error
0X0000007B Inaccessable_Boot_Device. This drive came from my previously
working computer that I just upgraded the MOBO in so I know it is still good.
It originally had an Intel VC820 MOBO in it but I wanted to upgrade the CPU to
a Pentium D so I had to get a new MOBO. Anyway, I installed another disk
drive in it and loaded WIN2K from scratch and that drive boots fine so I know
the BIOS and IDE port works fine. I can attach my old drive as a slave and
see all my files fine which tells me that the drive is okay. I called Intel
tech support and they informed me that when you load Windows it detects what
kind of hardware you have and installs the proper drivers so that the hardware
(IDE port in this case) can work. I understand this and have also researched
how the registry plays a large part in the boot process and loading the proper
drivers to boot up. Is there any way that I can reinstall WIN2K on my old
drive with it physically attached to my new MOBO so that it will boot properly
without losing any data and functionality of any of my programs? Thank you in
advance!
