PerfNet Errors
I set up computers with Windows 2000 Pro for use on our Netware 6.5 network.
My practice for doing so is to install Windows 2000 SP2, then using Windows
Update install SP4, IE6 and all windows updates that are currently
available. Once all the updates are installed I install the latest Netware
client and uninstall 'Client for Microsoft Networks" and 'File and Printer
Sharing for Microsoft Networks'.
In the past if I were to now go to the Event Viewer and check the logs there
might be errors, but once the logs were cleared I could reboot the computers
and would only see information events. Now what I see are glaring error
messages with the source being PerfNet stating that the Redirector and the
Server services are unavailable.
I understand that PerfNet refers to the performance monitor. I go into
services and disable that service (never use it anyway.) Errors still show
up every time I reboot the computer.
Now, I know that this is not something that is going to seriously affect my
computer. But it is annoying. Anyone know what service/function might be
making Performance Monitor activate and check the status of, say, the Server
Service. Any suggestions on how I can disable it and keep my Event Logs
clean?
