Win 2000 installation

I'm looking for some advice on installing Win 2000 to replace Win98 on
a completely stand alone PC. I'm hoping I can get answers to the
following questions:

-Do I need to reformat my hard drive first?
-How should I set up Win 2000 when given the option-as NTFS, FAT32 or
without? I'm not really sure what each means.
-If I'm going to be connected to the internet via high speed cable, is
there anything special I need to disable to prevent easy access to my
PC from outside-is it any less secure than say XP because it was
designed for network use?
-I have both a 4gb and a 14gb hard drive. I'm not sure which one to
install Win2000 to. Do my programs have to be on the same drive as
Win2000?
