Compaqs and HPs will not work from a reformated HDD. It needs the original
shipped condition hidden/protected partition. It WILL work, however, if you
have the original "restore" CDs and completely restore the hard drive to the
shipped condition, then download all of the compaq win '98 patches, fixes and
updates, then the win 98 patches fixes and updates, THEN install win2k as a
dual boot either on the same drive or a 2nd drive.
You MUST however, keep the Compaq/HP original HDD formatted partitions.
Luckily I still have my restore CDs for the compaq. I DON'T have them for my
newer win XP HP Pavillion and already had reformatted the HDD! I'm screwed.
Because dealing with the HP website for an older PC is a nightmare!
