George, thanks for sticking with me on this. I feel determined to overcome
this...whatever it is. Let me see if I can answer your questions.
I CAN boot the PC. After some initial stop errors (after the NAV uninstall
disaster), I was able to boot to the last know good configuration. I have
access to all my programs, email, etc., so I don't think I am ready to resort
to a total reinstall at this point. It is only the printers that seem to have
been affected. As I have said, this system was totally stable until the
Norton fiasco.
I am not familiar with the "sfc" command so hopefully you will explain what
this is.
As for the netbios (I think) error, here is what is displayed in the event
viewer log:
First I get the following WARNING:
Event Type: Warning
Event Source: BROWSER
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8021
Date: 07-Jan-05
Time: 18:02:35
User: N/A
Computer: D555J611
Description:
The browser was unable to retrieve a list of servers from the browser master
\\MPX449006P* on the network
\Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{3B0B56F4-F1ED-47D1-AC93-4EC110551F12}. The data is the
error code.
Data:
0000: 35 00 00 00 5...
* \\MPX449006P is the name of the wireless conected windows XP PC on my
Linksys network. The Windows 2000 is coonected to the router via an ethernet
connection.
then I get an ERROR:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: BROWSER
Event Category: None
Event ID: 8032
Date: 07-Jan-05
Time: 18:06:07
User: N/A
Computer: D555J611
Description:
The browser service has failed to retrieve the backup list too many times on
transport \Device\NetBT_Tcpip_{3B0B56F4-F1ED-47D1-AC93-4EC110551F12}. The
backup browser is stopping.
Data:
0000: 35 00 00 00 5...
Does any of this make sense to you?
