Hi all,

I posted just recently regarding a Process Name changed in the task
manager from Process name PowaMaster.exe to POWAMA~2.exe. For some
reason I can't seem to beable to repost to my message due to not being
able to retrieve the message from google groups!!

So I am posting my request again.... (Sorry to repeat, but I need to
get this problem sorted!)

<Repost>

We have an Application running on our Windows 2003 Server that we log
by its Image Name appearing in the task manager when it is runs. (The
Processes Tab in the Task Manager). The problem we are having is that
for some unknown reason the Image Name has seemed to of changed to a
slightly different name then the Application that it is actually
executing. The Application that we are running is called
PowaMaster.exe which till afew days ago appeared as PowaMaster.exe
under the Process Tab. Just lately it has changed its name to
POWAMA~2.EXE.

So its gone from

PowaMaster.exe to POWAMA~2.exe under the Process Tab???

I checked the name of the EXE Application file that it is executing
and it is still called PowaMaster. Why has it changed its process name
and is there a way to change it back to its original Process name
under the task manager?

The program still seems to execute fine, its just stuffing up our
logging program.

Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!!

Dave then replied:

I wouldn't worry about it unless you see side effects. PowaMaster.exe
is a long file name and POWAMA~2.EXE is a 8.11 short file name. The
two are the same.

**************************************************************************

The problem that we are having is that we have created a application
to log this particular process. The way that we log this process is
buy scanning the Task Manager Processes and detecting the
PowaMaster.exe Process.

Lately we have been unuable to scan for this process name as it has
changed to POWA~2.exe. We have temporarily changed our application to
log POWA~2.exe. We are hoping to somehow change POWAMA~2.exe back to
PowaMaster.exe Name convention.

Do you know possibly how this can be done or why it changed its name
to a 8.11 short file name??

If anyone has any solutions could you please post or email me
directly. I appreciate your time!

Powaguy
