Can not complete a dialer

I hope that makes since. The Internet Connection wizard is acting up. I
have Win 2000 and just had to reinstall some of it over top of an older set
up. Everything else seems to work pretty fine except I can't connect to the
Internet. I can't even make a connection. I bring up the Internet
Connection Wizard and I input the phone number I need to call (dial up!) and
then it asks for my user name and pass words. I'll put those in. Then it
will ask me to choose a nickname for the dialer. No matter what I put, I get
a response similar to, "Choose a nickname without spaces and special
characters". I am! I picked "connection" and a bunch of other words
(without " ") and it won't work. I still get the error message. I'm at the
library on their computer searching for answers. HELP please!
