Did your data partition exist before the disks where upgraded to dynamic
disks? In that case, this MS Knowledge Base article explains why it doesn't
work:

You say that your disks are mirrored. Is this done in hardware, or are both
your volumes (system and data) mirrored in software? In that case - and
your data volume was created after the disks where made dynamic - you might
be able to break the mirror of your data volume, extend it, and then
re-mirror.
