Winsock Reinstall

Thank you for taking time to review this question.
I have a friend using Windows 2000 and he has determined (through time on
the phone with some tech support people) that his Winsock is either
inoperable, corrupt, or gone. He would like for me to reinstall it for him.
What is the recommended procedure to accomplish this feat? He has his
Win2000 disk.
