I logged into my windows 2000 professional machine today and the Welcome to
Windows2000 screen came up. I thought it was strange but did not pay any
attention until my wallpaper did not show up either. First thought let me
log onto the internet to see if there is anything new out there attacking
machines. Next problem it tell me to setup my internet connection. I
thought this was very strange. I am thinking to myself I have a real
problem here. I setup the connection and no favorites, no homepage no
nothing. Ok first thought some type of adware or spyware or something. I
ran all my spyware programs and nothing found. I go to check my email
through Outlook not outlook express and there is no past email and it is
asking me the setup and email. I am really freaked now.

I found the problem. Somehow another user name has been created with the
same password and user name. In the My Documents and setting folder another
user has been created that is able to login with the user name.
This is what I found...
c:\documents and settings\username.computername
The older username is still under documents and setting with all my
favorites and email and everything but I can login to it. I thought about
just copying all settings to the new user name created but if it is some
type of virus or corruption that would not be too smart.
What is the proper way to correct this problem? Is the windows logon
somehow misdirected to the new username? Is there someway to redirect it
back?

Thanks for any help...
