Not on a domain, but: "The system cannot log you on now because the domain CLAUSS could not be found"

Alright, I just rebooted this computer after installing one of the critical updates (an update for IE SP1).

Now, as soon as it tries to login, I get:
"The system cannot log you on now because the domain CLAUSS could not be found"

CLAUSS is the machine name of this computer, but it is not and never has been on a domain. It is just a home computer. I've tried
both my normal user account and the Adminstrator account. Nada.

Trying to login through safe mode gives me the same thing.

Any ideas?
