It is possible that certain extension files are hidden by
the owner of those files or folders and should be unhidden
by same or staff member hyde. If you accidently hyde
files, the LAN group will not think of looking for them,
especially if the LAN group had to make
modifications/repairs sometime in the past. They would
had copied folders in directories and placed in another
while they did repairs or whatever. In doing so, you
would have lost those hidden items, unless LAN can go back
and restore from where they originally copied or moved.
Another issue could be the properties security on specific
hidden files or folders that properties were set with
specific security to allow only specific members to view
would also be considered hidden. Especially if you change
the owners properties.

server (WIndows 2000 Server), we are unable to see any
files that are named default. They just don't appear
although they can be seen from a workstation. If we
search at the server for any files named default*,* - it
will say no files found. Looking at a directory which
should have a default file in it will not show it, it will
show 10 file and yet when you go to the workstation and
look at the same shared folder, it will show the file
named default and tell you there are 11 files there. If
you create a file on the destkop called test.txt and then
rename it default.txt, it disappears from the desktop. If
you look at it from a workstation, it is there and will
reappear on the desktop if you rename it something besides
default. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is
occuring? We are in the middle of installing new AV
software on the server and this is a MAJOR problem.
Thanks for any suggestions.
